Ep 128: Action Guilt vs. Emotion Guilt

Forms of Guilt

Summary

  • Being stuck in guilt doesn’t move you forward.
  • Two types of guilt: action guilt and emotion guilt.
  • Action guilt is feeling guilty about our behaviours like yelling, eating something we didn’t intent to, not following on a commitment, etc.
  • Emotion guilt is feeling guilty about the emotions you experience in a certain situation. For example, feeling relief when someone passes away instead of feeling sadness.
  • Often starting with action guilt will be simpler because we’re more aware of our actions then what we’re feeling.
  • We often have messaging that certain emotions are good (happy, calmness) and bad (anger, hate).
